The last thing anyone wants during a Southern California summer is to deal with a problem with the air conditioning. Not being able to rely on your AC during a heatwave can be uncomfortable at best and downright dangerous at worst.
Common Reasons Your AC is Leaking
These are the most common causes of HVAC system leaks:
Leaking Overflow Pan
The overflow pan is a piece of your system that catches condensation from the evaporator coils. If there is any damage to this piece, such as holes or cracking, you could have a leak.
Clogged Drain Line
The drain line is the first place to look for a problem. The drain line is the path that water from the evaporator coil follows to exit your system. Because the line leads to outside, many things from the outdoors can clog your drain line. Mud, dirt, leaves, sludge, even pests such as rats and mice can get into the line and prevent water from flowing out safely. If the water has no path out of the system, its only path is back the direction it came from, resulting in puddling in your home.
